Reasons we have decided to stop accepting insurance:

• Interfering with Care: We would like to work directly with you regarding your care. This makes the most sense, right? Unfortunately when we bill insurance they decide what they will cover or not cover and how often we can see you. This means our relationship is with your insurance company, not you. On the other hand, sometimes your decision on how often to receive care is also based upon how many visits you are allowed per year. This too is very limiting to our practice of acupuncture and perhaps is not allowing you the results you could otherwise achieve.

• Financial Reimbursement: Every few months another insurance company decreases their reimbursement rate for acupuncture. Many of the rates do not even cover basic overhead + practitioner salary, much less the hours it takes our staff behind the scenes fighting tooth and nail to be paid for your visits. We jump through the numerous hoops of completing time consuming documentation and forms including sending faxes, costly mailings and endless phone calls often times only to be met with little or no reimbursement for our clients. We hold our efforts and our time to be of utmost value, and when they are not met with the intended results we have to question said efforts.

• Headache & Heartache: Our staff all know first hand how hard and painful it can be to deal with the insurance companies. Each of them have literally been brought to tears at the injustices they try to pull and their desire not to pay us for services rendered. This is not balance. This has become a very toxic element in an otherwise positive work environment.  

• Limited Pricing: If we are in-network, one rule the insurance companies have is that the clinic can only have 2 fee schedules: (1) the insurance rate and (2) a cash discount. This means that we have not been able to offer a senior discount or a student discount, wellness plans, or a community clinic, until now.
